Maori Battalion staunch and true !
Maori Battalion march t glory !
And take the honour of the people with you !

And we'll, march, march, march to the enemy !
And we'll fight right to the end !
For God ! For King ! and for Country !

Maori Battalion Marching Song Full version

In the days that have now gone
when the Maoris went to war
They fought and fought until the last man died
for the honour of their tribe
And so we carry on
the conditions they have laid
And as we go on day by day
You will always hear us say...

Maori Battalion march to victory
Maori Battalion staunch and true
Maori Battalion march to glory
Take the honour of the people with you
We will march, march, march to the enemy
And we'll fight right to the end.
For God! For King! And for Country!
AU - E! Ake, ake, kia kaha e!

A loyal band of Maoris
Sailing from New Zealand
To win us freedom and peace
Marching shoulder to shoulder onward
And we will shout again
Ake aka kia kaha e
Haere tonu haere tonu ra
Kia - o - ra Kia - o - ra

Tama Ngakau Marie
                      (Son of a peaceful heart)
This is a traditional Maori hymn, often sung at funerals.  It was adopted by the 28th (Maori) Battalion

Tama Ngakau Marie
Tama A Te Atau
Tenei tonu matoe
Arohaina mai

Murua ra nga hara
Wetekina mai
Enei here kino

Takahia ki raro
Tau e kino ai
Kei Pa kaha tonu
Ko nga mahi he

Homai he Aroha
Mou i mate nei
Tenei ra, e Ihu
Takina e koe

Tenei arahina

Whiwhi hari nui

Tama Ngakau Marie
Tama a te Atua
Tenei tonu matou
Arohaina mai

Au, e Ihu
                (The Soldiers Hymn)

Au, e Ihu, tirohia
Arohaina Iho ra
Whakaaetia ake au
Ki tou uma piri ai
I te wa, e ake ai
Enei ngaru kino nei
I te wa, e keri ai
Enei awha kaha mai

Tiakina mai ahau
I te wa e rurea nei
Aratakakina e koe
Roto te marino nui
Aua au e waiho noa
Awhitia mai ra e koe
Hipokina iho au
Raro i ou parirau

Ranea tonu ana mai
Tau aroha atawhai
Kaha ana mai ko koe
Ki muru i nga he
Puna o te oranga
Whakahekea tenei wai
Kia pupu i roto nei
Tae noa ki te mutunga

Amine
